Who are you? Tell us a bit about yourself?
We are Field Trip, a four piece Indie Pop band from Galway.
What does your music sound like?
It’s always very hard for us to answer this question, so we are going to delegate:
“I will say that Field Trip are not your common modern half baked band with a fresh new sound..Writing De Marco-esque pop songs full of beauty, melody, killer riffs and jostling reverberating guitars.. Their live shows are 110% creamytown.” David Boland (New Pope) – The Thin Air.
Very Apt, Very Creamy. Cheers Dave.
Who are the biggest influences on your music?
Everyone in the band draws from different influences, however, collectively we are influenced by acts such as Mac DeMarco, Wavves, Beach Fossils, Real Estate, Weezer, and many more. Closer to home though, we are influenced by many talented groups such as Oh Boland, So Cow, Squarehead, No Monster Club, Me and My Dog, New Pope, Eoin Dolan and many more.
How has your experience been being a musician in Galway? What’s the best part?
It’s been hugely positive. There’s a great community of musicians based in Galway where everyone is supportive of each other. We first got our start, like many other bands based in the West of Ireland, at a Citóg night in The Cellar Bar. It has now moved to the Róisín Dubh and has massively grown since. Without Citóg, and its founders Dave Boland and Hob Junker, many bands like ourselves wouldn’t have got our first gig and wouldn’t have had to chance to play with other bands based around Ireland.
Describe your dream gig?
Playing a gig where we actually get paid with actual money!
What’s your proudest achievement?
Getting asked to do a questionnaire by Ado Lyons of An Áit Eile. It makes us feel important, like someone cares about what we have to say. Again, thank you Ado.
What are your plans for future, both near and distant?
Near Future; finishing this questionnaire!! Distant Future; Finish recording our debut EP, play more shows around Ireland, and hopefully play a few shows abroad. Please hook us up with some gigs abroad!
Field Trip are one of Galway’s most exciting bands, gathering a cult following in a short time. It’s only up from here. Listen to their tunes at their Bandcamp page and like their Facebook to keep up to date with news. Field Trip play the Citóg Night of our cultural weekender on Saturday 8th of October.
