Fancy a change of scenery? A milder climate, better job opportunities, a different pace of life, or simply a new adventure? You’re not the only one who thinks so. The expat phenomenon has kept growing in recent years and, while Spain is one of the European countries attracting the most professionals eager for new experiences, there are many other places around the world whose living conditions are immensely appealing. If you’re weighing where your home will be in the years ahead, take a look at this list of the best cities to live in 2026.
The data comes from Global Citizen Solutions, which has evaluated 35 cities across six continents to produce a guide to the best cities for expats. They rely on various factors, such as how easy it is to relocate and the quality of life, when assigning each score. Liana Simonyan, a researcher at the company, explains that “prices, social integration and structural quality do not tend to align simultaneously. This index explicitly and measurably orders these priorities, exactly what people facing such a significant decision about where to live need.”
