Mara Martín: The Galician Wine with an Adventurous Spirit That Accompanied Every Toast at the Condé Nast Traveler Awards 2026

24 June 2026

Where the mouras dwell, those legendary figures who charm the rivers, monuments, and ruins of Galicia, Mara Martín also emerges there. A cosmopolitan, restless white wine with a pronounced vocation for discovering new horizons that was, undoubtedly, one of the great protagonists of the Condé Nast Traveler Awards 2026.

Guests were able to discover it firsthand during the evening, as it was circulated on trays at various moments throughout the celebration. Though, to enjoy it fully, it was also present inside the goodie bag that guests took home as a keepsake of the gala.

Behind each glass stood a wine crafted exclusively from Godello grapes in the D.O. Monterrei, one of the regions that best expresses the potential of this native variety. Its grapes come from vineyards situated in the valley as well as on the slopes of that Ourense town, creating a combination of altitudes and soils that adds complexity, freshness, and character. The nocturnal harvest and a careful, low-temperature production also help preserve the aromatic richness of the variety.

All of this is evident in its medium-high aromatic intensity, where notes of white fruit such as reinette apples and quince appear, accompanied by hints of green plum, citrus, jasmine, fresh hay, and fennel. On the palate it presents as broad, enveloping, and fresh, with a glyceric texture and a balance that invites you to keep discovering it sip after sip.
