In the heart of Romania, squarely within the historic region of Transylvania, Sibiu emerges as one of those cities that astonish, tucked away among the gentle contours of the area. Its old town, with Saxon heritage, preserves an urban harmony not always common in Eastern Europe, with wide squares, cobbled streets, and façades in soft colors that, for reasons unknown, invite us to slow down and enjoy things at a relaxed pace.
Sibiu is not a city that demands long trips or complex itineraries. Everything seems close at hand, but not in a chaotic way, but rather with a logic that invites you to explore it almost without maps, knowing that if you get lost, the only thing that will happen is that you’ll discover another lovely corner.
That sense of calm order is one of its main virtues, along with a strongly marked architectural identity defined by the so-called ‘Eyes of Sibiu’, those attic windows that have made the city a recognizable image.
Two days in Sibiu will give us time to traverse its main spots, uncover its Saxon cultural heritage, explore its culinary scene, and let ourselves be carried by a rhythm that blends serenity with local life. We propose a route for you to discover this Romanian gem.
Day 1. Morning
The first contact with Sibiu typically begins at the Piața Mare, the city’s main square and one of Romania’s most elegant urban spaces. It concentrates much of the local history, with buildings such as the old Town Hall and the imposing Brukenthal Palace, which houses one of the country’s most important art museums.
