More than a decade after its first edition, Hotel Tapa Tour still preserves its unrivaled way of enjoying a good tapa. The urban gastronomic route most anticipated by tapas lovers returns with new proposals and settles in 29 hotels of four and five stars. Restaurants, bars, gardens and terraces that at any other time of the year are reserved for guests will, for eleven days, open to the public with a culinary offering designed exclusively for the festival. The dish traditionally associated with bars and taverns now becomes the key to accessing the kitchens of the grand hotels.
This year, moreover, the edition arrives at an especially timely moment. In an effort to honor one of the most special rituals of our Spanish cuisine, tapas is in the process of being nominated as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. And there are few ways to celebrate it better than with a tapa in hand and Madrid as the backdrop.
What’s on the Plate
Hotel Tapa Tour unfolds its schedule in the capital and, from November 5 to 15, the experience will resume its flavor in Madrid. During the event days, each hotel will throw open its doors to host the route, presenting between three and four proposals created for the festival. In addition, the menu can be complemented by an artisanal croquette, a sweet tapa, and a wine pairing —featuring Cavas from the D.O. Ribera del Duero and the D.O. Cava’s Guarda Superior— chosen to be savored in the best possible way. Prices may vary depending on the establishment, ranging on average between 8 and 12 euros.
Some of the dishes awaiting us along the route whet the appetite at a mere glance of the menu. The Mercer Madrid hotel’s offering proposes a combination that could win anyone over: a Castiza Gilda with olive, anchovy and vermouth vinaigrette accompanied by the Lara O Luthier 2023 rosé from the D.O. Ribera del Duero. Meanwhile, The Principal Madrid asserts that the perfect croquette exists, with its version of cocido madrileño, mint-emulsion and a dash of piparras. And to close as it deserves, the InterContinental Madrid’s dessert proposal presents a creamy tiramisu with a core of amaretto, bourbon and ginger that arrives paired with an Amaretto Spritz. Along the way, you’ll also be treated to other flavor explosions that will continue to surprise you.
