James Turrell’s Dazzling Installation in Aarhus

1 October 2026

As under the dome of the Bourse de Commerce (Paris), contemporary art is celebrated through ephemeral installations, the ARoS Aarhus (Denmark) Museum has set out to do the same on its dome. And who better than James Turrell to reinterpret it?

Capable of captivating viewers with imposing light configurations that play with the full color spectrum, the American artist completed his latest major feat last June: As Seen Below – The Dome, the skyspace largest of his career.

Over more than five decades, James Turrell has made of light a tool to question our perception of space, and the skyspaces are his great signature. Designed as expansive spaces with an opening at the top, they turn the sky into a central element of the chromatic spectacle.

Skyspaces can be found in more than 26 countries, with As Seen Below the hundredth and most ambitious to date. “This extraordinary work invites us to slow down, look with fresh eyes, and experience our relationship with the world around us in a profoundly different way,” says Rebecca Matthews, director of the museum and CEO of ARoS.
