The Irish Film & Television Academy Awards celebrate Irish screen talent annually, and the 2026 list has been released.
If you’re hunting for a new watch this week, this is a prime source of inspiration as the 2026 Irish Film & Television Academy Awards have arrived.
The nominations celebrate Irish excellence in both film and drama across 29 categories. Among the standout entries, Christy, a coming‑of‑age drama set in Cork, leads with 14 nominations including Best Film, as well as acting and directing honours. Saipan, the film drawing on the 2002 FIFA World Cup scenario in which Irish captain Roy Keane relinquishes his place after a clash with manager Mick McCarthy, collects 12 nominations.
Other noteworthy titles include the comedy‑drama Blue Moon with eight nominations, while Four Mothers sits close behind with seven.
Having launched in 2003, this edition marks the 23rd anniversary of the awards. Áine Moriarty, Chief Executive of the Irish Film and Television Academy, expressed pride in the event and the Irish talent showcased at it:
“What a superb slate of nominees this year for the Irish Academy Awards. This remarkable showcase of work reinforces that Irish talent ranks among the very best worldwide, with individuals contributing both in front of and behind the camera across the globe.”
The ceremony is scheduled for Friday, 20 February at the Dublin Royal Convention Centre and will be hosted by comedian and actor Kevin McGahern. In addition to the night’s winners, the event will also honour Ciarán Hinds with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to cinema and television.
