Casa Vicens opened its doors in 2017 as a house-museum, but many decades earlier it was the manifesto house of a very young Antoni Gaudí, who at 31 already had a very clear idea of how a home should be designed. This building, about which he spoke at length in his text The Country House (1878-1883), in which he explained the conditions both of hygiene and aesthetics (the latter, he said, helped forge the character of the inhabitants of the house) that had to occur in any home, would lay the foundations of all the principles of movement, color and light that we would see in his future projects, which would establish him as one of our most treasured national talents.
This iconic setting was chosen to celebrate creativity at the already consolidated AD100 Night. Coinciding with the centenary of Gaudí’s death and with Barcelona as the City of Architecture, the modernist jewel came alive again, this time accompanied by contemporary pieces from Sklum, music, cuisine, and lighting designed to give full prominence to Gaudí’s grand work.
There was, therefore, no better setting to celebrate the fourth edition of the AD100 Night with Sklum. If the first edition took place on Madrid’s Crown of Thorns (by Fernando Higueras), the second in the Gallery of the Royal Collections (by Tuñón and Mansilla), and the third in the Semi-Buried House (by Javier Barba), this evening, which pays homage to the best national and international talent, finds in Gaudí’s work its greatest exponent.
The tour began in the spaces of the noble floor, once the stairs had been climbed and a large wooden door had been passed through, where as soon as attendees entered they encountered impressive marble tables from the new Sklum collection, on which the appetizers were arranged, inspired by Mediterranean cuisine. Sourdough bread, pickles, focaccia, bites of flowers and mushrooms among other delicious morsels.
