The best beaches in Pontevedra stretch like a succession of incredible paradises along its coast. We travel through the Galician province from south to north, between urban sands with all the amenities and other wilder ones that you reach via dirt tracks. Here the hard part will be choosing: while some will prefer swimming and watersports in protected settings, others will want to shed their swimsuit in hidden coves or tranquil beaches tucked away from prying eyes. All of it is close to fishing ports where you can sample the seafood that grows on their distinctive bateas.
Os Muiños Beach, A Guarda
Right at the mouth of the Miño we have the first hint that beaches, after Portugal’s grand and windswept sands, are something different in Galicia. A river and the ocean joining hands, and green nature reaching all the way to the very sand. Located within the Esteiro do Miño dune system, it is also designated as a Special Protection Area for Birds.
