Sunrise in Spain carries a profoundly magnetic quality: watching how the first light of day breaks the darkness. Our country, with its diversity of landscapes and climates, offers some of the most beautiful places in Europe to witness it—from peaks that touch the clouds to beaches where the sun rises over a still sea.
Watching dawn is not merely a contemplative act; it is an experience of connection with nature, a moment when time seems to stand still and we discover a beauty that is different, quieter and purer.
Each region of Spain has its own way of welcoming the dawn. In the north, fog and green valleys soften the light; in the south, the sun climbs among golden lands; in the islands, the marine horizon glows with fire.
Travelling to see sunrise means moving through the country at a different pace, seeking the exact moment when the day is born and the landscape reinvents itself.
1. Cap de Creus, Catalonia
The easternmost point of the Iberian Peninsula receives the first rays of the sun ahead of any other location.
In the wild Cap de Creus, with its twisted rocks and sparse vegetation, the dawn carries a primordial feel. The cliffs open toward the Mediterranean, the sea seems to flare to life, and the tramontane wind blows with force, a reminder that nature here offers no quarter. Dalí described it as a “geological delirium”, and with the first light of day one understands why: everything appears to rise from a mineral dream.
The Cap de Creus lighthouse —situated about 20 minutes by car from Cadaqués— is one of the best vantage points to witness this spectacle. At that early hour, the silence is broken only by the sound of the waves and the cries of seagulls.
