The wait is worth it when the reward is the spectacular flowering of the Caderechas Valley cherry trees. We’ve said it before and we’ll repeat it without growing tired: this corner of Burgos is one of the places in our geography where spring reaches its maximum expression of beauty.
The blooming of the Caderechas Valley cherry trees typically takes place in the first half of April, a delay explained by the valley’s altitude and its particular microclimate, which allows the cultivation of more than 50,000 cherry trees.
This year, if the weather cooperates and the warm temperatures do not come early –they should not exceed 16 degrees–, it is expected that the spectacle will reach its peak in the second week of April, bringing Holy Week to a close. In addition, the valley’s tourism portal confirms that this 2026 the blooming will be especially abundant, promising a view even more impressive than usual.
That said, the bloom does not erupt at the same time across the valley: the earliest cherries begin to emerge in the lower part, especially in towns such as Padrones de Bureba and Aguas Cándidas. To enjoy the upper area (Rucandio, Huéspeda, Madrid de Caderechas, Herrera…) at its fullest splendor you have to wait a little longer.
The Bloom as an Excuse
Undoubtedly, organizing a getaway along secondary roads to behold the Caderechas Valley cherries in full splendor will be merely the excuse to discover everything this rich destination has to offer.
Because this charming Burgos enclave, located north of the La Bureba region, not only rewards the visitor’s eyes with beautiful post cards of green forests and fruit trees, but also hides towns such as Aguas Cándidas, Tamayo or Río Quintanilla, which are well worth a visit.
And, in spring, when the flowers whiten every nook, these landscapes are at their most elegant. The narrow and quiet road that leads to the blooming heart of the region is near Salas de Bureba, a town with lovely manor houses.
