There is a region in Italy that can boast a bloom as striking as Japan’s, or perhaps even more beautiful. Castelluccio di Norcia, only two hours away by plane, is the dream destination for any photography or painting enthusiast. Between the months of June and July, nature presents us with a mosaic of numerous chromatic tones that settle at the feet of the Sibilline Mountains (Monti Sibillini in Italian), specifically in the Norcia plain, which spans roughly 15 kilometers, a landscape that could be described as the awakening of its lentil fields.
Depending on the moment at which winter begins to retreat, the bloom will arrive a bit earlier or later, but it typically starts to awaken by the end of May, reaching its peak splendor between late June and early July. What, during the colder part of the year, is a region blanketed in snow and fog, in summer completely changes its appearance to offer an environment that is highly creative and inspiring.
What plants star in this summer spectacle?
The dominant colors you can admire are the red of the poppies, the yellow of the tulips, the white of the daffodils, the purple of the violets, and the blue of the Centaurea cyanus, commonly known as cornflower.
