Plaza Mayor Christmas Market Announces Opening Date

7 November 2026

The Plaza Mayor Christmas Market will open its doors on Friday, November 27. The organizers announced this on their social networks: the event returns to Madrid and can be visited until December 31, 2026.

The red stalls with pitched roofs will return to the heart of the square, where locals from Madrid and travelers will find more than one hundred booths for their Christmas shopping.

Haven’t decorated your home yet? Here’s everything you need!

From the Nativity Scene to the Garlands

There are purchases that take time. Anyone who has accompanied a nativity scene enthusiast in choosing a new figurine knows this. At the Plaza Mayor Christmas Market you will find nativity scenes, the Three Kings, shepherds, animals, mangers and accessories to expand your own, as well as miniature trees to complete the landscape.

Those who prefer decorating on a different scale can look among baubles, stars, garlands, lights and tree ornaments, as well as wreaths, candles, lanterns and centerpieces for the rest of the home.

Nor will there be any shortage of hats, novelty glasses, and gag items. A stroll through the square in December will confirm that they are as popular as the nativity figures, though buyers usually spend far less time choosing them.
