The ADC Tierras de Talavera is a non-profit organization dedicated to the development of the Talavera region, the Sierra de San Vicente, and La Jara (Toledo). Among its various actions, it includes cleaning and marking trails in the municipalities within its scope of operation, thus promoting active tourism in the area. This brings us once again to Puerto de San Vicente, that bucolic village stretching at the foot of the Sierra de Altamira (Toledo Mountains) and whose eponymous pass (807 meters) serves as a natural barrier between Toledo and Cáceres.
In its outskirts, the Camino de los Regajos has been recently signposted, a short route (3 kilometers), with hardly any elevation change (50 meters) and suitable for the whole family, that will allow us to venture among pine forests, chestnut trees and orchards, in what amounts to a walk that is as accessible as it is pleasant.
Once in the town (about two hours from Madrid), we will head along the path (signposted throughout with wooden signs) on the road itself (CM-411), taking Morro Street (the first to the right) and then turning right again onto Hoyo Street (parallel to the road, behind the old Bar La Parra). The cement pavement will soon give way to a dirt track (the Agua Fría path) that will lead us into the lower part of the Sierra de Altamira.
Depending on the time, we may enjoy the shade of the pine and chestnut groves that we will cross, punctuated by the occasional holm oak and oak (in addition to the omnipresent jara shrubs that motivate the name of the comarca we are in). If we come in summer, it is advisable to undertake the Camino de los Regajos route in the early morning or at the end of the afternoon to go with the cooler air (perhaps a roe deer may cross our path).
In any case, we will have gradually climbed with views of the mountain range to the left and the panorama of La Jara to the right until we reach an intersection, at which point we will turn right to begin descending again toward the village. As we see orchards and olive groves, we will know that we are getting closer.
