“Don’t put all your eggs in one basket,” goes the saying. Ironically, the maxim seems to have stopped applying to some of the most successful concepts in Barcelona’s hospitality universe: smash burgers from Antonia’s Burger, the addictive fried fish at The Fish & Chips Shop or the knife-cut meat at Bien Kebab.
Undoubtedly, the brothers Majid and Mani Alam –also the masterminds behind Achaar Bar and Baby Jalebi– have found the formula for success through specialization. Their latest grand journey? Mexico, undertaken with their partner Serghio Muñoz. The proposal? Probably the most authentic tacos al pastor in the city. Buckle up, Tacos Muñoz has just landed in Sants.
When Barcelona Met Mexico
Behind Tacos Muñoz are three entrepreneurs and more than a decade of friendship. Serghio Muñoz, born in Mexico and seasoned in opening and managing restaurants between Mexico and Miami, has joined forces with the Alam brothers Mani and Majid Alam –owners of some of Barcelona’s most popular culinary concepts– to shape a straightforward yet ambitious idea: conquer the city with tasty tacos, without artifice or clichés.
“Serghio longed to taste a good taco during his extended stays in Barcelona,” Majid Alam explains to Condé Nast Traveler. “The three of us agreed there was room for an honest proposal,” he adds.
As for location, it’s no coincidence they chose Sants to launch their first taquería. “It’s a neighborhood with its own character, with longtime residents and a growing Mexican and Latin American community. That fit perfectly with what we want to be: a place where everyone feels at home,” they say.
