Unplugged: Catalonia’s Cabins Where You’ll Want to Turn Off Your Phone

16 October 2026

We have long since forgotten the art of simply being bored. Any idle moment has become an opportunity to pull out the phone and swipe robotically, letting ourselves be consumed by an endless stream of news, videos and digital stimuli. We live connected to everything and, paradoxically, more and more disconnected from ourselves.

Perhaps that is why the Unplugged proposal appears so tempting. Born in the United Kingdom in 2020 as an antidote to digital hyperconnectivity, the company landed in Catalonia four years later and, since then, has already added three cabins scattered across natural enclaves where coverage is not essential and silence is the greatest luxury.

The premise of the analog plan is simple: step away from screens for at least three days and see what happens when time stops being measured by notifications. This idea came from two friends, Hector Hughes and Ben Elliott, convinced that, in a world that stays permanently online, disconnecting for a few days each year should be as easy as it is necessary. And so they did.

Although the getaway lasts 72 hours, the experience begins long before arrival: you must plan meals—there won’t be a supermarket nearby—and pack only the essential items. As Unplugged explains, in the forest, far from storefronts and trends, no one cares about your outfit. In fact, running into someone becomes a rare event.
